Roulette is one of the longest played casino games in the history of the casino. Like poker or blackjack, roulette has just as many ways you can play the game. The following variation is a bit more of a thinker and not as straightforward as you would think and might need some strategies to get you on the winning side of the odds.

## Who Is Behind the Labouchere Roulette Strategy?

Firstly, let’s meet Henry Labouchere, he is the founder of this strategy and in the 1900’s he was known as a regular roulette player who ultimately lead to this invention. The strategy he worked with looks complicated but becomes very easy once you have the hang of it. The most important rule to remember is that this can only be applied to a bet with a 50% chance of winning. So, in roulette, this refers to:

• black\red,
• odd\even
• 1-18/19-36

Labouchere, also known as cancellation system, refers to a negative progression strategy; this means when you lose one round, you will make it up by increasing your betting amount. For some, this might work, however, only if you are winning a few hands. In the reality, should you hit a losing streak, it might be a little risky, and the chances are that you may lose all your money if a winning streak does not come along.

## How the Labouchere Roulette Strategy Compares to Martingale

Both of these strategies are working with the negative progression of bets. The one factor that differentiates the two is the following:

• Labouchere:  You will make up your losses by winning smaller amounts on more bets.
• Martingale:  In Martingale, you will risk much more when trying to make up all your losses with one big win.

If you look at the comparison of labouchere vs martingale, you will certainly be safer by choosing the first.

## Digging Deeper into the Labouchere Roulette Strategy

Now that you have a bit more background let us look at the strategy and how it works. To start off with, you will need to write down a sequence of numbers. Take about three or four numbers to start off with; this will be determining the amount you will be betting per spin. Look at the following example:

1-3-2-1

For your first bet you will be adding the front and back total together, eg. 1+1 =2. That means your first bet will be \$2 if you win the round, you will be crossing out the numbers added and continue, should you lose, you will add a 2 to your sequence. This strategy is to win the original amount you would of if you add your sequence numbers together. In the example, it will be \$7 in total.

Henry was successful in using this strategy; however, this will all depend on your luck and your winning streak. It is all about choosing the best labouchere sequence that will suit your bankroll and wait for your winning streak to beat the odds and win.
